What café customers look for before they visit
Opening hours, a menu, reviews and a map. Most café websites in Yorkshire are missing at least one.
Café, pub and restaurant websites had the lowest average score in our Yorkshire research, at 58 out of 100. The gaps were not about design. They were about the handful of things customers check before deciding to come in.
Opening hours, today
Only 44% of the sites we checked showed opening hours. Put them on the homepage, and if you can, highlight today. It is the single most common reason people visit a café website.
The menu, as text
55% had a menu on the site. A menu as text, with prices and dietary tags, is easier to read on a phone than a photographed card, and search engines can read it too.
Reviews
Just 17% showed reviews. You do not need a widget: three short quotes from real customers, with their permission, do the job.
A map and a tap-to-call number
39% had a map or directions, and 32% a tap-to-call phone number. Both take a minute to add and save a customer from giving up.
Our concept café site shows all of this working together, and the free website check will tell you which of these your own site is missing.
