Build the tool, not the deck
If a recommendation only works when someone runs the analysis every month, a slide deck is the wrong deliverable.
Consultancies default to the deck because it is the billable artefact. It is finished when it is presented, it is easy to scope, and it looks like work. But a surprising number of recommendations only hold if someone keeps doing the analysis behind them, every month, for years.
Site prioritisation is the classic example. A one-off catchment study is out of date the moment a competitor opens. Capacity planning is another: the bottleneck moves as soon as you fix it. In both cases the valuable thing is the machine that keeps producing the answer.
So we ask a simple question at the start of every engagement: will this need to be true next quarter as well? If the answer is yes, the deliverable is a tool, a dashboard or a pathway, built in a slice, owned by the client and kept current by the people who use it.
That is why Minshall Group has a strategy practice and a digital practice under one roof. It is the only way we have found to leave something behind that keeps earning after we have gone.
